Isuzu Collaborates with Partners to Launch Battery Swapping Solution Monitorings for Electric Truck in Thailand's Logistics Industry

Isuzu has initiated battery-swapping tests for its electric truck to study and pilot "Battery-swapping Solution" within Thailand's logistics sector. In collaboration with partners V. Cargo Co., Ltd. and Home Product Center Public Co., Ltd. (HomePro), the initiative aims to enhance transport and energy efficiency, driving progress toward carbon neutrality in Thailand in alignment with the "Multi-pathways to Carbon Neutrality" policy.

Mr. Vichai Sinananpat, Vice President of Tri Petch Isuzu Sales Co., Ltd., stated, “As a global leader in commercial vehicles, Isuzu is committed to developing products and services that address the goal of carbon neutrality specifically for commercial vehicles—vehicles that differ from other types in terms of their objectives and usage patterns, particularly regarding load-carrying capacity, durability, and transport efficiency.” Meanwhile, to address the needs of logistics operators who must balance operating costs with carbon reduction, Isuzu has introduced the “ISUZU LIFE CYCLE SOLUTIONS” concept to support customers throughout the entire vehicle life cycle. At the same time, Isuzu continues to advance its “Multi-Pathways to Carbon Neutrality” approach by developing a diverse range of technologies, including diesel trucks, battery electric vehicles (BEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), and vehicles powered by carbon-neutral fuels, to meet the diverse needs of customers. For commercial vehicles, where operational efficiency and business continuity are critical, Isuzu is further expanding its solutions with a battery-swapping system for electric trucks, providing another option designed to meet real-world operational needs.

Isuzu is currently evaluating market demand and the readiness of infrastructure to support electric vehicle-based transport. Recognizing that battery-swapping technology can enhance the efficiency and operational continuity of electric truck, Isuzu has initiated a project to study and test battery-swapping solutions under real-world operating conditions within Thailand's logistics sector. This project is supported by partners including V. Cargo Co., Ltd., a comprehensive logistics service provider with a long-standing presence in Thailand, and Home Product Center Public Co., Ltd.  (HomePro), a leading integrated retailer of home products and services.

For this monitoring, Isuzu is using the “Isuzu ELF EV,” an imported electric truck modified from the standard model manufactured and sold in Japan, to deliver HomePro products to consumers. A battery-swapping station has also been installed at V.Cargo’s distribution center to collect and analyze data on vehicle operation and battery swapping under real-world operating conditions. The data obtained from this monitoring is expected to contribute to the development of more efficient, practical, and sustainable transportation solutions in the future.

Battery-swapping monitoring details

Previously, a battery-swapping station was installed at the Samrong plant of Isuzu Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd.. Additionally, the "Isuzu Elf EV"—a battery-swappable electric truck—has undergone testing for transporting cargo from the in-plant parts warehouse to the warehouse of Tri Petch Isuzu Sales Co., Ltd., in preparation for real-world operational trial.

This monitoring will be conducted from September 2026 to March 2027 through the delivery of home appliances for HomePro, a logistics customer of V. Cargo using an imported Isuzu electric truck modified from the standard model manufactured and sold in Japan to transport products from HomePro’s distribution center in Wang Noi District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, to consumers. Throughout the monitoring period, data on vehicle usage and battery swapping will be collected and analyzed to evaluate the potential and suitability of battery-swapping electric truck for the logistics sector in Thailand. Key aspects under assessment include operational efficiency, continuity of operations, operating costs, the reduction of vehicle downtime, and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The battery-swapping process takes approximately 7 minutes, depending on the number of batteries exchanged in each instance.

The information obtained will be used to assess the feasibility of battery-swapping solutions within Thailand's commercial vehicle market and to examine potential operational issues and constraints. This process aims to develop a service model tailored to the logistics sector and aligned with the needs of actual users, ultimately paving the way for an efficient and sustainable future transportation system.
